Rear Suspension
The rear suspension uses the complete rear beam and trailing arm setup from the Sierra. Early models advocated the re-use of Sierra springs and shock absorbers, making an upper spring platform from the Sierra front struts, however the spring and damping rates are completely wrong for a lighter kit car, so aftermarket coilover units were supplied in later 2B models.
Original RH supplied green ‘Zimmeride’ coilovers were a cheap solution mounting a spring platform onto a standard shock absorber, but many cars have since been upgraded to bespoke coilovers since. GBS/Kitspares offer a set of GAZ coilovers for the 2B today, but some modification may be required to original mounting brackets.
Rear brakes will be either Sierra drums or disc brakes. Drum brake models came with ‘push in’ driveshafts and sealed tripod style CV joints, and Disc brake models used ‘bolt on’ driveshafts with Lobro joints. Driveshaft lengths are different from side to side, and also between open and LSD differential versions.
