Front Suspension & Steering
The 2B used a few different steering rack options, dependant on both suspension type and the deals that Robin Hood struck with suppliers at the time. Different racks required changes to the chassis mountings, as well as to lower steering column joints and different extension components to mount the track rod ends so should not be considered interchangeable.
Sliding Pillar models – Early 2B models used a (modified?) LHD Rover Metro rack, made originally by TRW and similar in construction to that used on the MGF.
Wishbone models - Early wishbone versions also used a LHD based Metro rack, although modified to limit travel and allow for the offset mounting position in the chassis.
Later wishbone models used a LHD mk2 Escort derived rack, and the chassis crossmember is significantly different to mount it.
